Centrifuge Tubes
Centrifuge tubes are a common container used in laboratory and industrial applications. They are commonly used to separate and analyze particles or components in liquid suspensions, using centrifugal force to separate particles or components from the sample.

How to choose a centrifuge tube?
Volume:
For smaller needs of volume we have 0.5 mL, 1.5 mL, 2 mL micro centrifuge tube, like 5ml tube centrifuge under 10 ml. The most commonly used regular test tubes are 15 ml centrifuge tubes, 50 ml centrifuge tubes. For larger volumes we have centrifuge bottles. To contain and organize we have centrifuge tube rack, or centrifuge tube holder.
When choosing a test tube, one must make sure that it can hold enough sample.
When using centrifugal tubes, the liquid added into the tube should be no more than 2/3 of the tube to prevent leakage. And the tube should be filled to the top when ultra centrifugation is performed. As ultra centrifugation requires super vacuum, so filling the tube prevents being deformed.
Bottom shape:
Conical bottom: Concentrates the liquid and makes it easier to pick up all the liquid during pipetting. When the sample is small and the precipitate is collected, it is better to separate it in a conical bottom, and the upper layer is easier to pick up with a pipette.
Round bottom: When collecting density gradients, a round bottom is preferred. The large area of the rounded bottom allows for greater centrifugal force compared to conical bottom during high-speed centrifugation.
Self-standing bottom: Can be placed upright on a tabletop for ease of use.
Non-standable bottom: Should be used in a test tube rack or placed upside down to stand on the table.

FAQ of Graduated Centrifuge Tube
What is the caveat?
It need to be leveled when centrifuging, because centrifugation is a high-speed rotation, if the weight of the two sides are not balanced, in serious cases, the rotor of the centrifuge will be damaged and fly out or even injure the operator.
When loading liquids need to be based on the material of the centrifugal tube to the reagent tolerance to choose, not all reagents can use plastic centrifugal tube, such as strong acids and alkalis will corrode the centrifugal tube.
The use of organic solvents in plastic tubes must comply with the provisions of compatibility with the corresponding materials, polypropylene centrifuge tubes (bottles) can not be used in contact with gasoline, kerosene etc.
Polycarbonate (PC) centrifugal tube (bottle) can not be used in contact with gasoline, acetaldehyde, acetone, ethanol, isobutanol, cresol and so on. Polyethylene (PE) centrifuge tube (bottle) can not be used in contact with sulfuric acid (50%, 75%), benzene, gasoline, kerosene and so on.
They are sterilized under high temperature and high pressure, and the centrifuge tubes should be separated from the caps. If they are screwed together and sterilized together, it is easy to cause deformation of the centrifuge tubes which may be dangerous during the experiment.
What is balancing a centrifuge requires that all tubes in the load?
All test tubes are of equal size and capacity and are placed opposite each other on the rotor holder.
What is the difference between plastic centrifuge tubes and glass centrifuge tubes?
Glass as a material is relatively chemically stable. Glass products have excellent chemical resistance to water, salt solutions, acids, alkalis and organic solvents, surpassing most plastics in this respect, with only hydrofluoric acid and strong alkalis or concentrated phosphoric acid attacking glass at elevated temperatures. Another characteristic of glass products is their shape stability, even at elevated temperatures. At the same time, however, the resistance to thermal shocks and mechanical forces must be taken into account when using glass. In the case of centrifuge tubes, both high-speed and ultra-speed centrifuges place high demands on the mechanical resistance of the tubes. Therefore, glass tubes are not used much in real experimental applications.
Centrifuge tube plastic is more widely used in practice, generally speaking, plastic centrifuge tube transparent or translucent, you can visualize the sample centrifugal situation, but relative to the glass tube is easier to deformation, resistance to organic solvents corrosion is poor, so the service life is shorter.
