Disposable Haemocytometer/Cell Counting Plate

Disposable haemocytometer(also known as a cell counting plate) is a glass counting tool used to directly observe and count the number of cells under a microscope. It is usually used with a cover glass and a staining solution (such as trypan blue) and is suitable for measuring the activity and concentration of mammalian cells, yeast, bacteria, and other cells.

MOQ: 1 CARTON.

Feature of Disposable Haemocytometer

  • High-precision scale: standard central grid structure, the volume of each small grid is known, which is convenient for calculating cell concentration.
  • Optical glass material: durable, easy to clean and reuse multiple times.
  • Adaptable microscope observation: suitable for conventional inverted or upright microscopes.
  • Matching cover glass: realize unified counting space and ensure data accuracy.

How to use a haemocytomete?

  • Take an appropriate amount of cell suspension and dye (such as 1:1 mix with trypan blue) and mix well.
  • Use a pipette (filter tip is recommended) to absorb the mixture and inject it between the coverslip and the counting area.
  • Observe the grid under a microscope and select several areas to count live/dead cells.
  • Haemocytometer formula: cell concentration = average number of cells per grid × dilution factor × 10⁴.
  • To ensure sterile operation and avoid cross contamination, it is recommended to wear nitrile gloves throughout the process and use a sterile cell scraper to gently recover the adherent cells.

FAQ of Cell Count Plate

Can a cell counter plate count all types of cells?

A blood cell counting plate is suitable for most mammalian cells, yeast, and some bacteria. However, for particularly small or irregular microorganisms, it is recommended to use fluorescent staining or an automatic cell counter to improve accuracy.

Why do we need to add trypan blue staining solution when counting?

Trypan blue can be used to distinguish dead cells from live cells. After staining, dead cells appear blue, while live cells are not stained. Observation with a counting plate helps to quickly obtain viability data.

What if the sample concentration is too high?

Use sterile PBS or culture medium to dilute and count to ensure that the number of cells per grid is within a reasonable range (usually 100–200). Use a pipette for accurate operation if necessary.

Are there any alternatives to using a plates for counting cells?

If you have a large number of samples and need to improve efficiency, you can choose an automatic cell counter. However, traditional plates cells count are still indispensable in teaching and basic research, especially for cost control.
