Cell Culture Dish

Petri dish for cell is a laboratory dish designed specifically for culturing eukaryotic cells in vitro. Through physical or chemical modification, it provides the surface properties required for cell adherence and growth, supports cell proliferation, differentiation and functional research.

  • TC treated, excellent wall adhesion.
  • Produced in a 100,000-level clean workshop, no DNA/RNA enzymes, no pyrogens.
  • EO ethylene oxide/irradiation sterilization,SAL 10(-6).
  • The available cell culture petri dishes include: small petri dishes such as 35 mm petri dish, medium petri dish such as 60 mm petri dish and large petri dish such as 100mm petri dish.

Petri dish definition : Cell Culture Dish is a commonly used container in laboratories, mainly used for microbial culture, cell culture, observation, and solidification of culture media. There are usually two types of culture dishes: plastic petri dish and glass petri dish. It is usually made of transparent glass or plastic material, with a flat bottom and a generally smooth surface, which is convenient for observing and handling samples. The petrie dishes are usually round or square, with a shallow bottom and a lid that can maintain a sterile environment for the sample and prevent contamination.

FAQ of Microbes Petri Dish

Can sterile petri dishes be reused?

Polystyrene culture dishes are disposable consumables. Repeated use may cause the surface coating to fail or cause cross contamination. If they need to be reused, it is recommended to choose high-temperature resistant glass culture dishes (which can be sterilized at 121°C under high pressure).

Is it compatible with suspension cell culture?

Yes. For suspension cells (e.g. lymphocytes), you can choose culture dishes that have not been treated with TC or add anti-adhesion agents (e.g. methylcellulose).

Is it compatible with suspension cell culture?

Preparation of agar medium

  • Calculate the ratio: Basic formula is agar powder 1.5-2% (w/v) + culture medium powder (such as LB broth powder or yeast extract).

  • Dissolve and mix

Add agar powder and culture medium powder to a conical flask and add about 80% volume of distilled water.

Heat to 90-95℃ (or boiling water bath) with magnetic stirring until the solution is completely transparent and free of particles.

Autoclave

  • Packaging and sealing

Cover the conical bottle mouth with aluminum foil and loosen the cap (leave 1/4 turn of thread to prevent bursting).

Stir-proof indicator tape is pasted on the bottle body (verified by color change at 121℃).

  • Sterilization procedure

Set the autoclave to 121℃, 15psi, and sterilize for 20 minutes.

After sterilization, slowly vent and cool down to avoid boiling of the liquid.

Cooling and pouring

  • Cooling control

After sterilization, the culture medium is cooled to 50-55℃ (warm to the touch but not hot).

Key point: If the temperature is too high, the microorganisms to be inoculated later will be scalded to death, and if the temperature is too low, the agar will solidify quickly and cause uneven pouring.

  • Aseptic plate pouring operation

Operate in a clean bench and pre-sterilize with ultraviolet light for 30 minutes.

Light the alcohol lamp to form a sterile operating area.

Tilt the culture dish at 45° and slowly pour the culture medium.

Let it stand for 20-30 minutes until it is completely solidified and forms a flat surface.

Quality inspection and storage

  • Sterility test

Randomly select 5% of the culture dishes and incubate them at 37℃ for 24 hours to confirm that there is no bacterial contamination.

  • Storage conditions

Immediately seal with sealing film after solidification and store in a refrigerator at 4℃ (to avoid dehydration).

How to choose the appropriate cell culture dish specifications?

  • For routine cell culture, 60mm cell culture dishes are more common.
  • For larger-scale cell culture, 100mm cell culture dishes provide more growth space. If higher experimental precision or specific functions are required, consider using cell culture flasks.

How can I prevent contamination when working with cell culture dishes?

  • Strictly sterilize tools such as inoculation loops and pipettes before operation.
  • Perform inoculation in a sterile workbench (such as a laminar flow hood) to avoid exposure to airborne microorganisms.
  • Keep the laboratory clean and use a culture medium filter to prevent impurities from entering the culture medium.
