FAQ of Stool Container

Can the stool cup be sterilized at high temperature?

Disposable stool sample cups are generally made of polypropylene (PP) and can withstand short-term high-pressure steam sterilization (autoclave) at 121°C. However, if the product has been sterilized by gamma ray or is packaged as a disposable, do not reuse or sterilize it at high temperature.

For routine stool testing, 30ml sterile container for stool sample is recommended. If multiple tests or large sample volumes are required, 60ml or above can be selected.

Do not collect stool directly into the toilet and then scoop it out.

Do not contaminate the sample (such as mixing it with urine).

After collection, it should be sent for inspection in time or refrigerated as required.

Yes, we also provide: Biological specimen bags, disposable gloves and other auxiliary supplies.

1. Prepare the Collection Container
Use a sterile, leak-proof stool sample collection container(like SDLABIO’s screw-cap stool cup with label and spoon).

Check the label to ensure your name, date of birth, and collection date are written clearly.

2. Wash Your Hands Thoroughly
Use soap and warm water before beginning the process to prevent contamination.

3. Avoid Contaminating the Sample
Do not urinate into the stool collection container.

Do not collect stool directly from the toilet bowl — water or cleaning agents may interfere with test results.

4. Collect the Sample Using a Clean Surface
Options include:

A disposable collection sheet placed over the toilet (often provided with test kits).

A clean, dry bedpan or plastic container.

Some containers come with a built-in spoon to transfer stool from toilet paper or collection device.

5. Use the Spoon to Transfer the Sample
Use the spoon to transfer a small amount (about a walnut size) of stool into the container.

Avoid overfilling — only a small amount is typically required.

6. Seal the Container Securely
Close the lid tightly to prevent leakage.

Ensure there’s no stool residue on the outside.

7. Label and Transport
Label the container if not pre-labeled.

Deliver the sample to the lab within 2 hours, or refrigerate as instructed by your healthcare provider.
