Silicone sealing mat is a laboratory consumable used to seal 96-well, 384-well and other multi-well deep well plates. It is made of high-purity medical grade silicone and has good chemical stability and reusability. How to clean silicone sealing mats?
Daily cleaning steps (for experiments without strong contaminants)
- Pre-rinse: Rinse the surface of the silicone sealing mats with deionized or pure water to remove residual liquid or particles.
- Mild cleaning: Soak the silicone sealing mats in a mild neutral detergent solution (such as 1% Neodisher or Clean Spirit) and gently scrub the hole surface and back with a soft brush or sponge.
- Rinse clean: Rinse thoroughly with pure/deionized water to ensure that no detergent residue is left.
- Air dry: Place on a clean drying rack to air dry, or place on a clean bench to air dry.
Deep disinfection steps (applicable to cell/molecular biology experiments)
- High pressure sterilization (recommended method). Can be placed in a high pressure steam sterilizer, 121°C, 15-20 minutes sterilization. It is necessary to confirm that the silicone material is high temperature resistant medical grade to avoid softening and deformation.
- Chemical disinfection (if high temperature sterilization is not possible). Can be wiped or soaked with 70% ethanol for 10-15 minutes. After soaking in 0.1% sodium hypochlorite, it needs to be thoroughly rinsed to prevent corrosion.

How to autoclave silicone sealing mats？
- To autoclave the silicone sealing mats for the well plate, first make sure that the product is made of medical grade silicone that can be sterilized at high temperatures. Before sterilization, the surface of the cover should be thoroughly cleaned with a neutral detergent to remove residual reagents or particulate matter, and then rinsed thoroughly with deionized water. Check for damage or aging. If deformation or cracks are found, it is recommended to replace the cover with a new one.
- After cleaning, place the silicone sealing mat in a breathable autoclave bag, avoiding direct contact with the metal tray to prevent adhesion or deformation due to high temperature. Try not to stack them too densely to ensure that steam can evenly penetrate each lid.
- The standard sterilization program is set in the autoclave. The commonly used parameters are 121°C for 15 to 20 minutes and a pressure of about 15 psi (103 kPa). The entire sterilization cycle includes heating, insulation and cooling stages, which generally takes 40 to 60 minutes. If the equipment supports higher temperatures (such as 134°C), a rapid sterilization program of 3 to 5 minutes can be selected, but it is necessary to confirm that the lid material can withstand it.
- After sterilization, the silicone sealing mats should be allowed to cool naturally to room temperature in a sterile environment to ensure that it is dry and free of moisture before being used for sealing. If poor sealing, hardening or surface cracks occur during repeated sterilization, it is recommended to replace it in time.

How to use 96 well plate sealer?
