Pipette Tip Box
Pipette tip box is a box of a certain size where pipette tips are placed so that they can be used directly at the automatic pipetting station without taking out the tips manually. Compared to bag packed pipette tips, they are more suitable for modern laboratory configurations and are cleaner and safer.

FAQ of Empty Pipette Tip Boxes
What to do with pipette tip box recycling?
- Assess contamination risks. If the pipette tips box has been used to handle pathogens, cell cultures, radioactive materials or toxic chemicals, it should be treated as biological/chemical hazardous waste. If the pipette tip storage boxes are not contaminated, it can be directly disposed of as ordinary garbage or recyclables.
- Classification processing.
- Preprocessing. Make sure there are no residual tips or liquids in the autoclaving pipette tip boxes to avoid cross contamination. Flatten or disassemble the box to reduce the space occupied (this must comply with laboratory regulations). If there are broken tips in the box, dispose of them as sharps waste (if using a sharps box).
- Follow lab-specific procedures. Confirm the laboratory’s waste management SOP (such as color classification, recycling partners, etc.) Verify the operation details with the safety manager or instructor to avoid violations.
- Environmental protection and reuse.
How to autoclave pipette tip boxes?
- Loading the sterilizer. Place the plastic pipette tips box flat in the sterilization basket, making sure there is space between the boxes so that steam can flow freely. Avoid stacking too high or against the inner wall of the sterilizer.
- Set sterilization parameters. Temperature: 121°C (conventional biocontamination sterilization) or adjusted according to laboratory standards (such as 134°C).Time: 15-20 minutes (start timing after reaching the set temperature).Pressure: Usually 15 psi (about 103 kPa), refer to the sterilizer manual for specific parameters.
Start the sterilization program. Close the sterilizer door and make sure the water level is sufficient and the exhaust valve is unobstructed before starting the program.Select “liquid/solid mixed mode” or standard sterilization program (some sterilizers require manual exhaust).
Exhaust and Drying. After sterilization, wait until the pressure drops to zero and the temperature drops below 80°C before opening the door to avoid burns from high-temperature steam.Enable the drying program (if available) to reduce condensed water residue.
