Typically 96 well PCR plates are available in two heights, the taller 0.2 ml volume and the shorter  0.1 ml volume, also known as the low profile. The shorter design of the 0.1 ml low profile  minimizes the space above the reaction system, reduces the evaporation, and improves the efficiency of heat transfer.
Skirt
The skirt serves to provide stability support for the pipetting process when building reaction systems, as well as mechanical strength and grip when incorporating automated workstations.
Non-skirted pcr plate: Compatible with most PCR or qPCR instruments, but not for automated applications. It is not very stable during pipetting, so better used with plate holder.
Semi-skirted plate: Suitable for labeling or applying barcodes, as well as automated applications, and with good pipetting stability. The plates are equipped with short edges on the sides to provide adequate support during heating or pipetting and not easy to deform and bend.
Skirted plate: Edges as high as the board and suitable for automated operations, als labeling and applying barcodes. Good mechanical strength for PCR instruments with protruding modules and high stability during pipetting.
Notch
A corner cut, or a notch, is a missing corner of a plate, depending on the instrument to be adapted. The cut corner may be located at position H1, H12 or A12 of the pcr 96 well plate. Or A24 of 384 well pcr plate.
A different corner cut will likely affect the ability of plate to be adapted to the PCR instrumen.
