How to prepare a wet mount microscope slide?
- Place a Drop of Liquid: Place a drop of liquid on the center of clean microscopic slides slide with a pipette.
- Place the Specimen: If the specimen isn’t in the liquid, place it into the drop slow It could be a tiny organism, a small piece of tissue, or other microscopic material.
- Put the Cover Slip: Hold the cover slip at a certain angle and gently put it on the drop. The cover slip spreads the liquid out evenly, keeping the specimen flat and stable. Place one edge of the cover slip over the sample first then carefully move the cover slip into the center with a toothpick or equivalent. This will help reduce air bubbles.

How to prepare slides for a microscope?
Wipe the alcohol cotton on the slides for microscope to make the surface clean and sterile, and leave it to dry for a few moments.
Remove the sample and process it as needed. For example, cells need to be centrifuged, tissues need to be sliced, etc.
Place the sample on the slide, you can use a pipette or pipettorto drop the sample in the center of the slide, and then use another slide to spread it well.
Add a few drops of neutral resin directly above the sample, place the coverslip correctly, and lay it flat to seal the slide.
How to clean microscope slides?
1. Rinse the Slide with Water
•Initial Rinse: Begin by rinsing the slide under distilled or deionized water to remove any loose dirt, dust, or residues.
•Avoid Tap Water: If possible, avoid tap water, as it may leave mineral deposits on the slide.
2. Use a Mild Detergent or Glass Cleaner
•Apply Detergent: Use a small amount of mild detergent or lab-approved glass cleaner, and rub it gently over the slide’s surface with a lint-free cloth or soft brush.
•Rinse Again: After cleaning with detergent, rinse thoroughly with distilled or deionized water to remove any soap residue.
3. Remove Tough Stains (Optional)
•Use Alcohol or Acetone: For tougher stains, fingerprints, or grease, use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, or acetone. Wipe gently over the affected areas.
•Be Cautious: Avoid using acetone on plastic slides, as it can cause damage. Also, work in a well-ventilated area when using chemicals.
4. Final Rinse with Distilled Water
•Rinse Thoroughly: After using cleaning agents, rinse the slide again with distilled water to remove any residual chemicals.
•Optional Deionized Rinse: If your lab has access to deionized water, a final rinse with deionized water can prevent mineral spots from forming on the slide.
5. Dry the Slide
•Air Dry or Use a Lint-Free Cloth: Either let the slide air dry or dry it with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Avoid using regular paper towels, as they may scratch the slide.
•Compressed Air: If available, use compressed air to blow off any remaining water droplets and dust.
6. Store Properly
•Place in a Clean Storage Container: Store cleaned slides in a dust-free, covered container or microscope slide box to keep them clean until use.
•Handle Carefully: When handling clean slides, hold them by the edges to avoid fingerprints and smudges.
