How to Use Serological Pipette?

  1. Select a seropipette that satisfies the amount required to transfer within 1-100ml.
  2. Attach the pipette filler securely to the top of the serological pipet to facilitate safe and precise liquid handling.
  3. To remove air bubbles, draw a small amount of liquid into the pipette, ensuring the level exceeds the required volume mark a little bit.
  4. Insert the delivery tip into the solution.
  5. Slowly draw the liquid into the pipet with the filter until the solution level surpasses the required volume mark.
  6. Carefully adjust the liquid level to the precise desired volume by blowing extra liquid back into its original container.
  7. Place the delivery tip right above the receiving vessel like a perti dish.
  8. Slowly depress the pipette filler to steadily dispense the liquid into the receiving container, ensuring complete transfer by allowing all liquid to drain from the pipette tip.
  9. After dispensing, release the pipette slowly to prevent splashing.
  10. Dispose of disposable pipettes following your laboratory’s waste disposal guidelines.
  11. For reusable glass pipettes, thoroughly clean with appropriate solutions and ensure they are dry before storage.

How to read serological pipette?

  1. Hold the pipette vertically: When using, the pipette should be perpendicular to the line of sight and kept perpendicular to the ground to avoid reading deviation due to angle.
  2. Read the bottom of the concave liquid when the liquid surface is concave: the liquid usually forms a “meniscus” due to surface tension. When reading, aim at the lowest point of the concave meniscus.
  3. Read the “absorbed volume”: The pipette displays the “absorbed volume”. For example, when using a 25mL pipette to aspirate to the scale of “10”, it means that 15mL has been aspirated.

How to clean serological pipette?

  1. Initial Rinse: Use distilled or deionized water to rinse out any residual liquid inside the pipette.
  2. Soaking and cleaning: Soak the pipette in a neutral detergent (such as laboratory glassware detergent): use a cleaning tank or stainless steel container; the soaking time is usually 30 minutes to 1 hour; you can use a soft-bristled cleaning brush to gently scrub the outer wall.
  3. Rinse well: Rinse repeatedly with plenty of deionized water to ensure no detergent remains.
  4. High temperature and high pressure sterilization.
  5. Drying and storage: Allow the pipette to air dry naturally or dry in a drying oven at low temperature; store in a pipette rack or pipette tube to avoid dust and collision.

Can it be autoclaved?

Generally speaking, autoclaving is not recommended for most disposable serological pipettes. If you need to reuse them, please choose a model marked “autoclavable” or use a sterilizable pipette tip with a micropipette to complete the same operation.
